Carol, Wife of Late NBA Coach, John MacLeod Is a Legend in the Theatre World Renowned for Her Influential Work!

Late NBA coach John MacLeod was married to Carol, a prominent figure in the theatre world who has made notable contributions to the industry with her praiseworthy work.

John and Carol first met during the former’s first year with the Suns, where Carol’s brother played cupid by arranging their first date.

Despite a humorous first encounter where she attempted to create a shot chart for John, their connection grew, leading to a marriage that lasted 38 years.

Carol was a constant source of support for John throughout his coaching career, including his time with the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and New York Knicks.

They also built a loving family together with their daughter, Kathleen, while balancing their careers with their roles as parents and partners.

Unfortunately, John’s battle with Alzheimer’s for over a decade ended in 2019 when he away at the age of 81.

John MacLeod and Carol made a great team and were each other’s biggest supporters.

Together, they were actively involved in their community, with Carol’s theatre scene and John’s successful basketball coaching career.

Reflecting on his career and their life together, Carol expressed pride in his achievements and was deeply moved by his induction into the Phoenix Suns’ Ring of Honor.

This tribute resonated deeply with their family and the city he loved. Carol expressed her gratitude by :

There was a lot of changing places and addresses, and you had to learn about a loved one having to deal with the public eye. But you grow from that, you do, and it’s nice to see a father and a husband who will now be honored by the team he loved, in the city he loved.

However, when Carol lost her partner in 2019, she faced the grief as a challenge with remarkable strength and grace.

In addition to her prominence as John’s better half, she was a sensation and a legend in the theatre world.

Having started her in New York as a stage and TV actress, Carol gravitated towards production, direction, and teaching later.

She was instrumental in founding Actors Theatre of Phoenix and served as its first Artistic and Managing Director.

Carol co-founded the Theatre Artists Studio and currently serves as its President. She has been president of the Studio board for over four decades.

She is also the director of the Arizona Theatre Company’s Encompass Program and was an original member of the Phoenix Arts Commission.

Additionally, Carol has taught at prestigious institutions such as the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, the University of Notre Dame, and various theatres in Phoenix.

She previously served as Fine Arts Coordinator, developing staff and curriculum for the Fine Arts Program at Xavier College Preparatory.

Currently, Carol teaches and produces at the Theatre Artists Studio, where she continues to promote theatre through her work.

Despite facing the tragic loss of her husband, she continues to honor his memory through her dedication to the theatre community.

• John MacLeod played basketball in high school, where he was a star player, and later, he played at Bellarmine College.
• John served as coach at the Oklahoma Sooners men’s basketball team for six years until 1973.
• MacLeod was the head coach for the Phoenix Suns from 1973 to 1987, after which he worked as a coach for the Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, Notre Dame, and Fighting Irish.
• He also spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets and retired as an assistant for the Golden State Warriors.
