Texas Rangers Add Familiar Face As Chris Martin Returns On 1-Year Contract

Chris Martin, an American professional baseball pitcher, signed a 1-year contract for the 2026 season with the Texas Rangers.

On Monday, January 6, 2026, the Texas Rangers announced that the club signed right-handed relief pitcher to a one-year contract.

Before signing the contract with the Rangers, Martin went 3-1 with a 3.45 ERA in 45 relief appearances for the Red Sox for the 2026 season.

The MLB star had a 2.16 ERA in 100 games for the Red Sox during his tenure of 2 years.

He signed a two-year contract with the Red Sox on December 8, 2026.

Moreover, this is not the first time that Martin has signed a contract with the Rangers. He signed a two-year $4 million contract with the team on December 15, 2017.

Martin posted a 3.84 ERA with 80 strikeouts in 84 games with the Rangers from 2018-2019.

Likewise, Rangers warmly welcomed Chris on his return to his former team.

Texas shared a picture of Chris on their official X handle, stating, “Welcome home, Chris!“

In response to the post, many Rangers fans expressed their happiness in the comments and welcomed Chirs back home.

Chris Martin Began His Professional Career With Independent Leagues!

The Colorado Rockies of MLB selected Martin in the 21st round of the 2005 MLB draft and returned to McLennan for his sophomore season.

While the Rockies waited to see his progress to decide whether or not to offer him a contract, Martin suffered a shoulder injury while pitching for McLennan as a sophomore, and the Rockies decided not to offer him a contract.

Martin was not selected in the 2006 MLB draft, and after graduating from college, he signed with the Fort Worth Cats of the United League Baseball, an Independent of MLB, for the 2007 season, which was the beginning of his professional career.

Unfortunately, his shoulder discomfort didn’t allow him to pitch in a game for the Cats, and the doctor recommended Martin to undergo surgery to repair the labrum.

Martin, however, quit his professional baseball career rather than undergoing surgery; in 2010, after three years out of baseball, Martin tied out with the Grand Prairie AirHogs of the Independent American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.

He began his Minor League journey with the Sox in 2011 before joining the Colorado Rockies in 2014.

The Rockies promoted Martin to the on April 25, 2014, and he made his major league debut on April 26 against the Dodgers.

Chris Martin continues to showcase his exceptional baseball skills and contribute his efforts to MLB.
