Coach Richard Steensland Is Survived by His Wife Margaret and Their Three Kids!

Late coach Richard Steensland’s wife of almost six decades, Margaret, affectionately known as Maggie, stood beside him until he took his last breath on February 6, 2026.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Richard Steensland, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Despite his battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Steensland remained active and engaged. He competed with the supportive community at Staring Lake and the Eden Prairie Community Center.

Steensland and Margaret were married for a beautiful 57 years; however, Margaret remains away from social media.

The longtime married couple had three kids: two sons, Ryan and Matt, and a daughter, .

Steensland was born to Kermit and Dorothy Steensland on January 11, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His inclination had been in athletics since his early days.

A standout athlete, he played three sports during his time at Hopkins High School, class of 1963. Steensland’s dedication to sports continued at Bemidji State, where he competed in four sports and graduated in 1967.

Little did he know, his athletic accomplishments were just the beginning of his lifelong commitment to coaching.

Eventually, Steensland’s passion led him to Henning, Minnesota, where he coached basketball, baseball, and football.

His dedication and skill were recognized in 1972 when he was named ‘Football Coach of the Year.’

A funeral service to celebrate Rich’s life is scheduled at Christ Presbyterian Church, Edina, MN, on February 18th at 1:00 PM, followed by a dessert reception.

Coach Richard Steensland was Preceded in Death by His Grandson, Grant Steensland!

The long-term married couple of 57 years, Richard Steensland and Margaret Steensland, were grandparents of ten grandchildren: Steven, Charlie, Joe, Max, Tommy, Kathryn, Grant, Megan, Blake, and Samantha.

Steensland and Margaret’s son, Ryan, is married to Pamela, and the couple has three children: two sons, Blake and Grant, and a daughter, Samantha.

Unfortunately, his grandson, Grant William Steensland, preceded him in death. The 7-year-old Grant passed away on June 6, 2010, at his home in Edina.

The 7-year-old Grant was a golf lover, swimmer, hoopster, gardener, baker, biker, fisherman, reader, math wiz, and adventurer.

A funeral service to celebrate Grant’s life took place at Christ Presbyterian Church on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at 11 AM.

Apart from him, all of Steensland’s grandkids are grown up, if not most of them are already married.

Steensland and Margaret’s daughter, , is married to , and they have three kids: two sons, Joe, Steven, and .

His grandson,, married Sarah on June 24, 2026. Whereas grandson , a graduate of Baylor University, is married to Mady Mendyke.

Whereas details surrounding their other grandchildren aren’t available at the moment.
