Community Mourns Former College Athlete Charles Belford After Sudden Passing

Charles Mitchell Belford, affectionately known as “Chuck,” passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2026, at his home in Port Angeles, Washington, at 63.

Chuck was born on January 16, 1962, at Providence Hospital in Seattle, Washington, just moments before his twin brother, Christopher.

His passion marked Chuck’s life for sports, his dedication to coaching, and his unwavering love for his family and friends. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Growing up in Washington, Chuck attended Mariner High School, graduating in 1981, and furthered his education at Dawah Dynamics.

It was during these formative years that his athletic talents began to shine.

Chuck excelled in track and football, showcasing his natural abilities and competitive spirit.

He continued his athletic journey at Everett Community College,

His hard work and determination led him to set a record in the decathlon, a feat that remains unbroken today.

Beyond his athletic pursuits, Chuck also earned an associate’s degree in astronomy, reflecting his lifelong fascination with the stars and the universe.

Additionally, where he graduated in business/managerial economics in 1990.

Chuck’s life took a beautiful turn when he met and married Susan Beason.

Their love blossomed, and they welcomed their daughter, Hayley Marie Belford, who became the center of Chuck’s world.

Hayley wasn’t just his daughter; she was his best friend, a bond that remained unbreakable until his final moments.

Sharing His Passion For Sports With The Next Generation, Chuck Dedicated Countless Hours To Coaching

He coached Hayley’s softball team for ten years, serving as head coach for four of those years.

His coaching extended to his daughter’s track and soccer teams and numerous junior high and high school track teams across Bothell, Kenmore, Port Angeles, Everett, and Edmonds.

Chuck’s coaching wasn’t limited to organized sports; he extended his guidance and encouragement to anyone who sought it, from neighborhood kids wanting to learn football to his sister looking to improve her golf game.

A natural athlete, Chuck excelled at any sport he tried, including golf, fishing, skiing, and swimming.

However, his greatest love was the outdoors, especially Lake Crescent, where he found solace and joy in nature’s beauty.

Above all else, Chuck cherished his family and friends. He was the heart of every gathering, bringing laughter and joy to those around him.

His infectious sense of humor and mischievous spirit made him the family prankster, earning him the endearing title of “imp” from his mom.

Chuck had a unique ability to connect with people, turning strangers into friends with his kindness and warmth.

The news of Chuck’s passing has been met with a memorial of love and remembrance.

His daughter, Hayley, shared a heartfelt tribute, expressing her profound love and gratitude for her father.

She wrote,

Chuck’s brother, Mark, also shared a touching message, saying,

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, John Belford. He is survived by his mother, Jimmie, his daughter, Hayley, and his five siblings, as well as other beloved family members and friends.

Chuck’s kindness and warmth touched so many lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

His memory will live on through the countless lives he impacted as a coach, mentor, and friend.
