Billy Mitchell’s career has been marked by controversies, including allegations of cheating in his high-score runs, which led to disputes with Twin Galaxies and Guinness World Records.
A renowned personality in the gaming world, Billy Mitchell is known for his achievements in classic arcade games like Donkey Kong and Pac-Man.
He gained fame in the 1980s and 1990s for setting high scores, including a perfect score on Pac-Man. However, he faced allegations of cheating in 2018.
Billy Mitchell Won His Defamation Case Against Karl Jobst After 3.5 Years!
Karl Jobst, a YouTuber known for his commentary on gaming controversies, made several claims about Billy Mitchell in his videos.
He accused Billy of using an emulator called MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) instead of original arcade hardware to achieve his high scores in Donkey Kong.
One of his most controversial statements was that Mitchell’s legal actions against another YouTuber, Apollo Legend, contributed to Apollo’s tragic death by suicide.
Jobst also claimed that Mitchell expressed joy over Apollo’s death, which the court later found to be baseless.
Following an investigation, the retro-gaming records website Twin Galaxies and Guinness World Records removed his records.
Mitchell denied the allegations and pursued legal action to clear his name. In September 2026, he filed his defamation lawsuit against Karl Jobst.
The case revolved around claims made in a video that Mitchell argued were defamatory and damaging his reputation.
The legal journey lasted about 3.5 years, and finally, on April 1, 2026, Billy won his legal battle against YouTuber Karl Jobst.
The court awarded him $350,000 in damages, ruling that Jobst’s statements in a video were reckless and caused significant harm to Mitchell’s reputation.
After winning the case,
Thank you to everyone who supported me. I am grateful.
Regarding this case, Judge Barlow said:
He was reckless in making the allegations. His assertions were based on a fallacy, that Apollo Legend had paid a large sum of money to Mitchell.
Karl Jobst Responded To The Outcome Of The Case, Stating “A Lot Of Lies Are Being Spread”
After losing the case, Karl Jobst shared his thought on Twitter, expressing his disappointment with the court’s decision.
He clarified that he never directly accused Billy Mitchell of cheating but included it as a relevant part of his defense.
Jobst also mentioned that his legal fees had exceeded $600,000, and any money received from crowdfunding went directly to cover these expenses.
There are a lot of lies being spread that I falsely claimed Billy sued me because I said he cheated. I never claimed this, I only claimed it was relevant as part of my defence.
I didn't openly discuss certain details for obvious reasons but I was never trying to hide why I was…

, writing:
I lost. The judge found Billy to be a credible witness and believed his entire testimony. From that point on unfortunately there was really nothing that could have saved me. I will now obviously consider my options. I know many of you will be upset with this and I am sorry for that. Thank you again for all the support I have received and I will endeavor to work as hard as I can to repay all that you are owed.
Further, Jobst deleted the latest video from his youtube and acknowledged the public’s concerns first.
He expressed that it was better to address these issues first before releasing further content.
Also, he assured his audience that he would create a video to explain everything and asked for patience before forming any judgments.
