Mike Patrick, the beloved ESPN broadcaster known for his 36-year career, passed away on April 20, 2026, at 80, surrounded by his wife, Janet Patrick.
In his final days, Mike Patrick was not alone; his wife, Janet Patrick, stayed by his side in a Northern Virginia hospital, offering support until the end.
Mike Patrick was a familiar voice in college football and basketball games, including ESPN’s “Sunday Night Football” from 1987 to 2005 and the Women’s Final Four from 1996 to 2009.
So far, little to no information about her, including when they married or other personal milestones, is known.
Though Mike Patrick remained low-key about Janet publicly, he reflected on the challenges of broadcasting in a 2018 interview, saying:
If you get married, your wife will despise you three months into it, because you’ll say, ‘No, I can’t go to that party with your friends because I’m working.’ Or you take her on the road and you can’t take her out to dinner because you’re in the hotel room working.
This rare glimpse speaks volumes about how Janet supported him through the long hours and frequent travel.
Unlike Patrick’s professional life, which was like an open book, his personal life remained private. Hence, details about Janet Patrick are concealed, as she stayed out of the public eye.
Though private, the couple’s life together was nothing but filled with support and care. Janet was a significant part of his life, sharing a home with him in Northern Virginia.
