The Austin High School community is mourning the unexpected loss of Jackson Bauer, a dedicated math teacher and ice hockey coach who passed away on March 10, 2026.

Bauer’s death has left students, colleagues, friends, and family heartbroken.

He had a gift for making complex math concepts understandable and enjoyable, motivating his students to excel academically.

Beyond the classroom, he consistently went the extra mile to support his students, serving as a role model and a source of guidance.

“So sad. When he was at Elgin, I taught him. Great person and teacher. We will miss him.

“this one hit hard, he was a great math teacher and he gave the best hype speeches a coach can give, always got us pumped up before a game. Rest easy coach.”
