Donald Sterling and his wife and mother of three kids, Rochelle “Shelly” Stein, lost their son, Scott Sterling, at his Malibu home at 32 in January 2013.
As a former owner of the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, Sterling’s legacy is marked by success in real estate and professional basketball.

By the time of the 2014 scandal, the couple had become estranged.

The tragic demise of their son, Scott, further complicated their strained relationship, with Shelly describing it as one of the factors that drove a wedge between them.
She remarked,
“My son d*ed about a year ago, and that was one of the things that came between us. I mean, he’s never been a real husband, as far as being with the kids. And there’s many issues.”
