The future Hall of Famer Carl Edwards and his wife, Katherine Edwards, were the IT couple when they debuted their love story in 2006. Despite their popularity as a couple, they have stayed away from the public limelight for years.

In May 2026, NASCAR announced the list of drivers getting inducted into the Hall of Fame 2026.

One of those inducted was Missouri-born and raised driver Carl Edwards, who had taken the sport by storm in the early 2010s.

Carl and former driver Ricky Rudd were elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame as top vote-getters from the Modern Era Ballot.

Edwards had 72 NASCAR National Series wins, including 28 in the Cup Series.

In the Xfinity Series (previously called Busch Series), Carl finished no worse than third between 2005-2010 in the standings and won the championship in 2007.

Unlike many other NASCAR drivers, Edwards called the curtains on his career earlier than anticipated.

When asked why he retired from the sport, the driver said he needed time and wanted a break to spend more time with his family.

Carl Edwards and his wife Katherine Edwards have a Missouri connection. The two were born and raised in the Show-Me State.

The two started seeing each other in 2006, and three years later, they tied the knot on January 3, 2009.

Previously, it was that the couple purchased the stationery for their 2009 wedding invitations from their local Office Depot store.

Katherine Edwards (née Downey) comes from an academic family. Her father, Edward Downey, served as an assistant attorney general for Missouri State for 13 years.

Her mother, Barbara Downey, graduated from the University of Missouri and became an assistant teaching professor at the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business.

Like her parents, Katherine enrolled at the University of Missouri and received her medical degree in 2004.

In 2007, in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she also served as the Co-Chief Resident from 2006 to 2007.

Before her wedding to Carl, there were reports of Katherine working as an assistant professor of Clinical PM&R working with inpatients suffering traumatic brain injuries.

Unlike many NASCAR WAGs, Katherine is unavailable on social media, making it difficult for his fans to know what the family has been up to since Carl’s retirement.

The former NASCAR driver has also chosen to remain away from the public limelight.

He only appeared for an in early 2026 after the Hall of Fame news.

When Carl said he wanted to devote his time to family after retirement, he meant it.

After tying the knot in January 2009, the couple announced they were expecting their first child in October 2009.

The 2009 PEOPLE article shared that the couple were expecting a baby girl in mid-February.

At the time, Carl joked he would name their baby girl Daytona as Kate’s due date coincided with the 2010 opening race.

That only remained a joke as the couple named their only daughter Anne.

Fifteen months after Anne’s birth, the couple became parents for a second time, with Katherine giving birth to their second child, Michael.

In a 2011 interview with , Carl said, “She’s a great mom, so I hope she enjoys this Mother’s Day.“

Both Micahel and Anne are teenagers, but there are no pictures of them on the internet.

The of the Edwards family’s children are of Anne, who was only a few months old and was being carried by her dad at the podium.
