Former Professional Running Back Reggie Bush Is Suing USC, Pac-12 And NCAA For NIL Compensation

Reggie Bush is suing the NCCA, Pac-12 Conference, and USC for using his name, image, and likeness (NIL) without directly paying him.

Born on March 2, 1985, in Spring Valley, California, Reginald Alfred Bush III is a former professional football running back.

He played college football for the USC Trojans and earned All-American honors twice. Additionally, he won the Heisman Trophy as the Most Outstanding Player.

Recently, Bush accused the NCAA of defamation in a lawsuit filed in an Indiana Superior Court.

His attorney has stated that he expects USC to pay the legal fees related to his efforts to reinstate his Heisman Trophy.

Reggie Bush Has Filed a Lawsuit Against Collegiate Sports

Reggie filed his lawsuit against USC, The NCAA, and The Pac-12 on September 23, 2026.

Reggie is seeking compensation for using his name, image, and likeness (NIL) during his college football career at USC from 2003 to 2005.

His legal team claims these entities profited significantly from his efforts through television contracts, merchandise sales, and media rights without paying him.

Additionally, they claim this case is about finding justice for Bush and setting a mark for the fair treatment of all college athletes.

This lawsuit also follows the NCAA’s rule change in 2026, which now allows athletes to profit from their NIL.

On the contrary, Bush is pursuing a separate defamation lawsuit against the NCAA. This lawsuit stems from a 2026 statement by the NCAA.

Furthermore, the statement allegedly mischaracterized the circumstances leading to Bush’s compensation of his Heisman Trophy in 2010.

Regarding this matter, one of the NCAA spokespersons stated,

“Although college athletes can now receive benefits from their names, images, and likenesses through activities like endorsements and appearances, NCAA rules still do not permit pay-for-play type arrangements…”

Reggie Bush Widely Recognized As One Of The Greatest College Football Players

Reggie Bush began his football career at a young age, quickly rising to prominence.

He attended Helix High School in La Mesa, California, as a standout running back.

Bush played for the USC Trojans from 2003 to 2005, becoming one of the most outstanding players in college football history.

His college achievements include winning the Heisman Trophy in 2005, which was later forfeited and reinstated in 2026.

He also won the Doak Walker Award for the best running back and the Walter Camp Award for Player of the Year in the same year.

Moreover, he was part of the BCS National Champion teams in 2003 and 2004.

In the 2006 NFL Draft, Bush was drafted second overall by the New Orleans Saints.

He played for the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, and Buffalo Bills during his NFL career.

Bush won Super Bowl XLIV with the Saints in 2010 and was named First-team All-Pro as a punt returner in 2008.

However, he retired from professional football on December 15, 2017, finishing his career with 5,490 rushing yards, 477 receptions for 3,598 yards, and 58 total touchdowns.

He achieved significant success in college and the NFL, building his legacy as one of the greatest in football history.
