Former Washington Mystics Star Elena Delle Donne Opens Up About Her Relationship with Wife Amanda and Their Unique Proposal Story

The former Washington Mystics forward Elena Delle Donne and her wife, Amanda Delle Donne tied the knot in 2017. Elena came out publicly in August 2016.

The 6’5″ WNBA player, Elena Delle Donne, joined the league in 2013 with Chicago Sky.

After a three-year stint in Chicago, she signed with the Washington Mystics.

With Washington Mystics, Elena won her first and only ring in 2019.

Adding to her achievements, she has won the WNBA MVP twice in 2015 and 2019.

Moreover, she has made it to the WNBA All-Star team seven times.

In February 2026, Elena announced she was stepping away from basketball and wouldn’t sign the one-year supermax offer she received from the Mystics.

Delle Donne said she needed more time to think about her future in the game.

She had pre-informed Mystics that she was unsure about her future and didn’t want to interfere with the Mystics’ offseason plans.

Was this a sign from Elena that she wanted to retire from the game and start focusing on her family, or will we see the WNBA legend back on the court starting next season?

Elena Delle Donne’s Wife, Amanda Delle Donne Is A Former College Basketball Player

Elena Delle Donne and her wife, Amanda Delle Donne, met through mutual friends in 2013.

After graduating from Alleman High School in 2007, Amanda enrolled at Illinois State University.

At Illinois, Amanda played four years of basketball and graduated with a business degree in 2011.

Her first two years as a basketball player were nothing special.

In her , Amanda started in all 36 games, leading the team and the Valley in assist-to-turnover ratio and ranked 29th in the nation in that category.

In her senior year, Amanda became an All-MVC Honorable Mention and MVC All-Defensive Team selection.

She also received the team’s MVP, Hustle, and Jill Hutchison Leadership Awards.

After graduating, Amanda decided basketball was not for her and started working in the corporate sector.

In 2012, as a Claim Representative and worked there for seven months before joining Lids Team Sports as a Sales Representative.

Two years later, Amanda became the director of De11e Donne Academy.

Likewise, she has been the vice president of The Elena Delle Donne Foundation since 2016.

Besides that, Amanda established her company, Shotfun, in 2026, which makes a toy shotgun used to shotgun a canned beverage.

Elena And Amanda Tied The Knot In 2017 After Four Years Into Their Relationship

It was in her that Elena revealed she was part of the LGBTQ+ community and engaged to Amanda.

Before their wedding, the couple gave an , sharing a few facts about their everyday lives.

In the interview, Amanda said:

I knew I fell in love when there was a weekend I was supposed to be going home to see my family and I literally could not get myself to leave Elena’s house.

The couple also shared that their two dogs, Wrigley and Rasta, each starred in one of their proposals.

Wrigley who has passed away helped Amanda propose to Elena on the beach by carrying a ring over to Elena on his collar.

When Elena’s turn came, Rasta wore a veil and carried a “Marry me?” sign on the rooftop proposal.

The couple exchanged their vows on November 3, 2017, at New York’s Hempstead House.

For their special day, Elena wore an Ersa Atelier gown, while Amanda opted for a Pronovias stunner with custom beading on the back.
