A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Ann met Greg in Peterborough in the mid-1970s when he played junior hockey with the Peterborough Peters

Greg Millen was a teenage goaltender with big dreams at the time. Ann, meanwhile, was a local girl with an interest in music.

Later, the couple fell in love and tied the knot. She followed him across North America, from Pittsburgh to Hartford, St. Louis to Quebec, and beyond, as he logged 604 games and 17 shutouts.

While Millen’s world revolved around hockey, Ann’s passion was music. She never let go of her love for playing and performing.

After Greg retired from playing in 1992 and transitioned into broadcasting, the family settled in a charming old farmhouse in Bridgenorth, Ontario, just outside Peterborough.

It was there that Ann found space to pursue her own dreams. Above all, Greg also encouraged her to follow her dreams.

Ann enrolled in the University of Toronto’s music program later in life and earned her degree in 2014.

Greg and Ann lived in Bridgenorth, Ontario, for many years before moving to Bracebridge to be near their grandchildren, which speaks volumes about their priority to be with their loved ones.

Reflecting on Greg’s love for his family, broadcaster Elliotte Friedman wrote:

The only thing he loved more was his growing family: wife, children and, now, grandchildren. Very, very sorry for their loss.

With Greg Millen’s passing, the entire Millen and Kelly family is facing a challenging time as they grieve his loss.

During this ordeal, we extend our condolences to his wife, his kids, and the extended Millen and Kelly family.

Greg Millen Had a Successful Broadcasting Career Spanning Over Three Decades!

Born in Toronto on June 25, 1957, Greg Millen started his hockey career with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who picked him in the 1977 NHL Draft.

He went on to play 14 seasons in the NHL, guarding the net for six teams: the Penguins, Hartford Whalers, St. Louis Blues, Quebec Nordiques, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Red Wings.

Throughout his career, he played 604 games, won 215 of them, and stopped all goals in 17 of those games, which are called shutouts.

His best year was 1988-89 with the Blues, when he led the league with six shutouts.

After his last season in 1992 with the Red Wings, he hung up his skates but didn’t leave hockey behind.

Right after retiring, Millen stepped into broadcasting. He started with the Ottawa Senators in their first season in 1992-93 and quickly became a fan favorite.

He later joined “Hockey Night in Canada” on CBC and then worked with Sportsnet, calling games for teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames.

Over 30 years, he covered major events, such as three Olympic Games, two World Cups of Hockey, and 12 Stanley Cup Finals.
