Actor-comedian Billy Crystal and Hollywood director Spike Lee are inducted as superfans on Sunday, October 13 at Springfield, Massachusetts’ Basket Ball Hall of Fame.

On Sunday, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony brought together basketball’s best stars in Springfield.

Billy Crystal and Spike Lee were among, who showed up to accompany those 13 enshrines.

No matter how much of a fan you are, the Basketball Hall of Fame has certified Billy and Spike. The movie director and the actor are two of four ardent supporters of their favorite teams who have been recognized by the venue for their extraordinary passion.

Along with Philadelphia businessman Alan Horwitz, the actor and director Billy Crystal and Spike Lee were inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Sunday.

Jack Nicholson, a long-time supporter of the Lakers, is also included in the hall of fame, though the three-time Academy Award winner was unable to attend the ceremony.

Horwitz and Lee wore what looked like they were sitting courtside, while Crystal wore jeans and a sports jacket. Lee, dressed in an orange vest over a New York sweatshirt and capped with a black Knicks bucket hat, sparred with the other team as if he were sitting in Madison Square Garden.

Fans and the audience were overjoyed to see their favorite Hollywood stars welcomed into the Basketball Hall of Fame as superfans and wearing the ring reserved exclusively for superfans.

The irony was not lost on Billy Crystal on the even and he said, “How strange to be getting a ring before any of the Clippers.“

Crystal was in high school a few years ago when he was drawn to another high schooler, Larry Brown, who would eventually be inducted after winning titles as a coach in college and the NBA.

He originally supported the team, attended MSG frequently. He used to go to Lakers games after moving across the country, but then someone suggested he check out a Clippers game. “And I asked, ‘Why?'” remarked Crystal.

He has stuck with them ever since, though, even if the squad hasn’t given him a championship. He seemed to love it.

Lee was at the arena when the Knicks won their first championship in 1970, and even though it took a time to get to the great real estate he currently occupies, he had Knicks season tickets since the team droughted Patrick Ewing in 1985.

While Lee is talking about how the New York Knicks will win this season, Crystal isn’t quite as upbeat about the Clippers. He did, however, make the point that devoted fans never stray from their teams.

The two Hollywood stars have demonstrated their passion as a major fan of the Knicks and the Clippers, respectively, which gave them the basketball hall of fame induction of 2026 as superfans.
