Kamika Sherwood, the first Jacks Soccer All-American and Hall of Famer, passed away at 54 on Tuesday, April 2, 2026. He played for the Humboldt soccer community from 1989 to 1992.
The Humboldt soccer community mourns the loss of Kamika Sherwood, a beloved player, teammate, and family man.
He was known for his passion for the game and his dedication to his loved ones. Sadly, he leaves a legacy of kindness, sportsmanship, and community spirit.
His impact on Humboldt soccer remains unmatched. He dazzled on the field with a rare combination of scoring prowess and playmaking vision, finishing his career as the second all-time leading goal scorer (32) and fourth in assists (19).
His dominance in the 1992 season cemented his place in history. He became Humboldt’s first-ever All-American and earned Northern California Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors.
These achievements secured his rightful induction into the Humboldt Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999.
Moreover, his legacy extends far beyond stats and accolades. Teammates remember him for his brilliance on the pitch, unwavering loyalty, infectious spirit, and genuine care for those around him.
A true leader in every sense, he embodied the heart of Humboldt Athletics. His influence endures, inspiring future generations and ensuring his legacy will never be forgotten.
We are heartbroken by the passing of Lumberacks soccer legend Kamika Sherwood on April 2. Kamika was the first Jacks Soccer All-American, Hall of Famer, and one of the greatest to ever wear the green and gold. More than that, he was a loyal, caring teammate. He will be deeply missed.

Kamika Sherwood was a cherished member of the Humboldt soccer community who left behind a legacy of passion, leadership, and love for the beautiful game.
He dedicated decades to soccer, inspiring teammates, opponents, and young athletes with his skill, sportsmanship, and unwavering dedication.
Kamika played for Humboldt’s local leagues, where his tenacity on the field and camaraderie earned him the respect of all who knew him.
He approached the game with joy and a deep sense of community, whether playing competitive matches or mentoring younger players.
Beyond soccer, Kamika was a devoted family man who often shared a .
Kamika was the son of Spencer Sherwood and Noella Kanoelani. His wife, Leigh Choate; son, Jake Sherwood; and daughters, Makena Sherwood and Brittany Sherwood, survive him.
The Sherwood family survives his kindness, humor, and generosity, which touched countless lives on and off the pitch.
His family will soon announce his celebration of life to close friends and extended family members. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to different charities in his honor.
The outpouring of love and memories from those who knew him paints a picture of a man who lived life to the fullest and inspired others at every turn, even though the cause of his unexpected death is still unknown.
One of the best strikers to ever play for Humboldt State – Hall of Fame baller – Kamika Sherwood. Gone way too soon, but while he was here: kind, humble, dismissive if we were singing his praises, and full of Aloha. Being a good human came easy and naturally. He is loved and will be missed. Once a Jack always a Jack.
His spirit will live on through the memories he created, the goals he scored, and the love he shared. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
