Early Life

Thirty-four-year Jamarr Johnson was born on June 20, 1988, at a beautiful place named Pittsgrove, New Jersey, United States. 

Jamarr Johnson attended his formal education at Schalick (Pittsgrove, New Jersey) and later went to Widener for his college.

Professional Career

At the APBL, Johnson played for the Schuckers; it is a minor basketball league of semi-professional men where he got a chance to showcase his versatility as a player.

He averaged 17.5 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. 

Likewise, Johnson had a tough career at the beginning; Jamarr didn’t have a team to play; he used to work as a full-time salesman.

Besides all the struggles, he continued to work and focus on his game. 

Similarly, in 2012, Johnson got a chance to come to Indonesia to teach basketball to the children. 

Johnson ran to Indonesia with his team from Athletes in Action. He started coaching there. 

Johnson got a moment to coach for the prestigious Pelita Harapan University men’s basketball team.  

Johnson got an opportunity in 2014  to meet with the owner of CLS Knights Surabaya while playing basketball.

And then, he invited Johnson to join his team and play in the IBL, the professional league in Indonesia. 

However, in the league, foreign players were prohibited, so, Jamarr decided to be a naturalized citizen of Indonesia. 

He was granted Indonesian citizenship after going through the 1-year process of converting his citizenship.

During the pre-season, Johnson made an immediate impact and impressed everyone with his playing, along with an average of 15.67 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 4 assists to go with his 2 steals and 1.3 blocks average. 

On January 10, 2016, Jamarr made his official debut in Indonesia. Johnson ended the season and dominated the league, making a record of 21 wins and 2 defeats. 

He was able to lead the league in points with an average of 15.25 points per game, and he was awarded the Rookie of the year as he won the MVP.

Due to the complication with Johnson’s citizenship status and his passport, it was announced that he was incompetent to play in the Indonesia National Baseketball at SEABA 2017. 

However, later again, he was cleared to play on May 16, 2017, during the final two remaining games. 

Jamarr Johnson made his national debut by scoring 17 points against Myanmar and led Indonesia to an outstanding history.

In the gold medal match, Indonesia and Johnson were matched up, and they sadly lost against a powerhouse team, the Gilas from the Philippines.

Despite rumors and expectations, Jamarr was unfortunately not selected for SEA Games 2017, which happened from 20 to August 26, 2017; it was held in Kuala Lumpur as Indonesia opted to go with Ebrahim Enguio Lopez instead for their naturalized player spot.

Jamarr was invited to play for the national team for the 2018 Test Event Asian Games.

Yet, they somehow managed to set foot on the elimination round point differential.

Indonesia was playing against China, and the NBA player Zhou Qi was leading in the opening round and was defeated 98 to 63.

The country ended up finishing 8th, and Indonesia was able to amass the highest finish in history.
