The Memphis Sports Hall of Fame class of 2026 honored Action News 5’s legendary journalist Jarvis Greer on Wednesday night in Memphis for his contribution to the sector.

Jarvis, also known as ‘Jarvo,’ amongst his colleagues, spent 43 years of his life as a journalist for Action News 5, 30 of which he spent as the station’s sports director. After such a long career, he took retirement at the end of 2026.

Almost two years after his retirement, he was immortalized by being inducted into the Hall of Fame. After receiving such a great honor, Jarvis expressed his whirlwind of emotions, saying,

Throughout my career in sports journalism, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing some of the greatest athletes in our city. It’s truly an honor to be recognized alongside them in the Memphis Sports Hall of Fame.

Well, the fact is that Jarvis got to walk on the Memphis Hall of Fame alongside many other big names like Grizzlies icon Zach Randolph, late NFL legend Reggie White, Andre Turner, Dick Fadgen, Andy Roberts, Bobby ‘Bingo’ Smith, and Regina Street.

In this regard, the retired journalist said he is humbled by the experience, especially when he hosted the event for several years before finally being inducted this year.

Emotions are off the chart, I can’t tell you everything that I’m feeling right now, because there are so many things that are going through. I never got into this for awards or anything like that. I started doing sports because I liked sports and it was fun.

Lastly, Jarvis gushed about the opportunities he had had throughout his career. He never felt like he was doing work; instead, whatever he did, he did with full enjoyment.

At the same time, he also appreciated the audience who liked his work, saying, “And I’m so fortunate that people like what I had to do, and I’m just glad that I had the chance to do it.”

The event became more memorable when his son, J. J. Greer, handed him a Hall of Fame trophy. So, Jarvis appeared cheerful and excited.

Post-event, many are congratulating Jarvis Greer for what he has achieved lately, including Davis Woloshin, the voice of Memphis Tigers Football. Praising Jarvis, Davis said,

The thing about Jarvis Greer is really simple. There are not that many folks that you can look to that have been around for all this time, stayed in the market, and always been upbeat; there are truly nice people. But when I talk about Jarvis Greer, I am talking about just a good person.
