On July 18, 2003, a 19-year-old hotel worker, Katelyn Faber, accused Kobe Bryant of sexual assault, and the Eagle Country sheriff’s office detained him.

He had checked into the Cordillera Lodge and Spa while in Eagle, a small town in Colorado, for minor knee surgery.

His trial had fallen apart by September 2004. Despite being told not to identify the victim, his lawyer named her six times in court.

She didn’t testify for the sexual assault but filed a civil lawsuit, and they settled out of court for an undisclosed fee thought to be more than .

Afterward, Vanessa filed for divorce in 2011, citing irreconcilable differences, but recommitted to the marriage by 2013.
