As the Gaudreau family slowly navigates from the tragedy that struck their family on August 29, 2026, Katie Gaudreau and her partner, Devin Joyce, announced in January that they had bought their first house.

Katie and her fiance, Devin, were supposed to tie the knot on August 30, 2026, but one phone call turned their lives upside down.

A day before her wedding, Katie’s brother and NHL player, Johnny, and her other brother, Matthew Gaudreau, died in a bike accident.

The two brothers were biking in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, near their hometown of Salem County.

The New Jersey State Police reported that Sean M. Higgins struck them as he attempted to pass another vehicle.

Higgins was found guilty of driving while intoxicated when he struck , 31, and Matthew Gaudreau, 29.

Recently, Sean Higgins’ lawyers have made a stunning claim that the two Gaudreau brothers were more intoxicated than his client.

Defense lawyers said Johnny Gaudreau had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.129, and Matthew had a BAC of 0.134 meanwhile, Higgins had a BAC of 0.087.

The defense also claimed in another filing that Salem County prosecutors were overcharging Higgins, which could lead to 35 years behind bars.
