Leon HS Football Asst. Coach Robert Morales Lost His Life In FSU Shooting, Leaving Behind Wife, Betty And The Daughter, Alicia!

Robert Morales, a former assistant football coach at Leon High School and dining coordinator at Florida State University (FSU), tragically lost his life in a recent shooting at FSU.
The tragic shooting at Florida State University on April 17, 2026, claimed the lives of two individuals: Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba.
Six others were injured, including students, but they are expected to recover.
The suspect, Phoenix Ikner, a 20-year-old FSU student and stepson of a local sheriff’s deputy, carried out the attack using his stepmother’s former service weapon.
He was apprehended after being shot by campus police and remains hospitalized.
Investigators are still working to determine his motive. However, there appears to be no connection between the suspect and the victims.

Beloved coach , 57, was a member of the Leon Lions’ athletics community.
He was known for his dedication to mentoring young athletes and fostering a positive environment for his students.
Beyond his impact in the world of football, he also served as dining coordinator, where he was respected for his kindness and commitment.
He was also a co-founder of Gordos Cuban Cuisine. Later, he opened Black Bean Café, where he shared his love for Cuban food.

Morales’ brother, Ricardo, posted a family photo with the caption:

Additionally, the university vice president, Kyle Clark, paid tribute to Morales and said, while at a vigil honoring program on Friday:
Robert Morales didn’t just do the job. He lived the job, He was dedicated to the mission of service and care for the Florida State University community, He made our dining experience feel like home for every student, especially those from South Florida.
