Samuels was born to Philip Samuels and Daphne Samuels on February 5, 1981. His brother, Robert Samuels, was a former cricketer for West Indies.

Samuels used to take an absence from his school to practice batting. He believed that education was a distraction from his goal of joining the Windies cricket team.
National Career
During the tour of Australia, the West Indies played a match against Queensland. In the game, Samuels recorded his highest first-class score with an innings of 276.

For the Bangladesh Premier League in 2012 by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, an auction was held for teams to buy players.
In the auction, Samuels was bought for $360,00 by the Duronto Rajshahi. He held the team’s highest run-scorer in the competition with 242 from the inning.
Later, Samuels signed a contract with Pune Warriors India in 2012. He intended to play as a team member for the 2012 and 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, the 2012 IPL occurred simultaneously with Australia’s tour of the West Indies. Due to this, he was granted permission to skip the three-Test series and play in the league.
In the tournament, Samuels was reported for conducting a suspect bowling action. Such action led to suspension from bowling for the rest of the game.
Samuels’ hard work and effort led him to be selected for the Melbourne Renegades in the 2012 and 2013 Big Bash T20 League.
He contributed to Peshawar Zamli winning the 2017 Pakistan Super League. Similarly, he also helped Kowloon Cantons win the 2017 Hong Kong T20 Biltz.
Despite his contribution and success, he was not selected until the 8th round of the 2017 Caribbean Premier League Draft, as the St Lucia Stars picked him.
International Career
In a game against Indians in 2002/03, Samuels recorded his maiden Test hundred at Kolkata.
With his innings of 104, he helped the West Indies draw the 3rd test, which was made against Javagal Srinath, Harbhajan Singh, and Anil Kumble.
In the series level at 3-3 going into the final match, Samuels made a record of smacked 108, not out off, just 75 balls.
At last, his former team, the West Indies, finished the game with 315 and went to win by 135 runs.
Likewise, he also played in two tests during the 2005 tour of Australia and recorded the highest score of 29. However, later Samuels was sent home due to a knee injury.
Continuing as a Permanent Member
Samuels recorded his second ODI century in a game against Pakistan in 2006. With the help of his unbeaten 100, West Indies won.
However, later in the following month, he fell just short of another century in a game against the Indians. Despite the fall, his quick dire 98 helped his side chase down India’s with 268.
Later, Samuels played as part of the Pro Cricket League for the Chicago Tornadoes in the United States.

Samuels earned his 8th OCI century in a pool match against Zimbabwe in the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
He broke the record with Chris Gayle with 372 runs for the second wicket, the highest-ever partnership for any wickets in ODIs.

Illegal bowling & drop from the squad
In 2015, Marlon Samuels was reported again for his bowling action in the first Test at Galle.
The bowling action performed by him was called out to be illegal for the second time. This led him to be banned from bowling in the international area for 12 months.
However, in a match against Pakistan, Samuels performed poorly in tests. Due to this, he was dropped from the ODI squad for the 2016-17 Zimbabwe Tri-Series.
Controversy
In the Melbourne derby in 2012, Samuels held back David Hussey at the non-striker’s end while taking a second run-off at Samuel’s bowling during the Stars innings.
