Born on August 1, 2001, in Hartford, Connecticut, Naumov has steadily built an impressive career marked by consistent performances and notable achievements.

His journey in figure skating began at the tender age of five, inspired by his legendary parents, world champion pair skaters Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova.

Throughout his career, Naumov has demonstrated remarkable resilience and skill, overcoming injuries and continuously improving his technical prowess.

He is a three-time U.S. national pewter medalist, a title he most recently secured at the 2026 U.S. Championships in Wichita.

His early successes include being the 2026 U.S. junior national champion and finishing fifth at the 2026 World Junior Championships.

Despite facing challenges like a missed season due to injury, Naumov has consistently showcased his determination and talent.

Maxim’s parents, Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova, were themselves illustrious figure skaters who dominated the pairs skating world in the 1990s.

Introduced by Naumov’s coach in 1985, they to become partners but eventually formed a formidable skating team.

Their competitive career reached its pinnacle in 1994 when they won the World Championships in Chiba, Japan, after previously securing bronze medals at the European Championships and World Championships.

The couple’s skating achievements were remarkable.

From 1991 to 1995, they won five European Championship medals and became world champions.

Their Olympic journey included a fifth-place finish in Albertville in 1992 and a fourth-place result in Lillehammer in 1994.

After retiring from competitive skating in 1998, they transitioned to coaching, working first at the International Skating Center in Simsbury, Connecticut, and later at the Skating Club of Boston.

Beyond their professional success, Vadim and Evgenia were deeply committed to their son Maxim’s skating career.

They personally coached him, guiding his development from his early beginnings at age five.

Their pride in Maxim was evident in their social media posts, where they celebrated his achievements and acknowledged the team effort behind his performances.

Tragically, their promising coaching career and personal journey were cut short when they died in a plane crash on January 29, 2026, returning from coaching a figure skating development camp.

Their legacy continues through Maxim, who has followed in their skating footsteps and embodies their passion for the sport.

Maxim previously competed in gymnastics as a child before focusing on figure skating and graduated high school in 2019, taking a gap year before attending Suffolk University.
His favorite skaters are Olympic champions Evgeni Plushenko and Yuzuru Hanyu, alongside his parents.
