Sandro Mamukelashvili, the talented Georgian-American basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs, has always credited his family, especially his parents, Marianna Oakley and Zurab Mamukelashvili, for his successful NBA Career.

Born on May 23, 1999, in New York City to Georgian parents, Sandro’s journey from Tbilisi to the NBA is as inspiring as it is unique.

Although was born in New York, his family moved back to Tbilisi, Georgia, when he was a baby.

Growing up in Tbilisi, his older brother David introduced him to basketball at a young age.

His grandmother, Ira Gabashvili, a celebrated basketball player for the Soviet Women’s National Basketball Team, also powerfully inspired him.

Sandro has often spoken about how her legacy motivated him to pursue basketball and make his family proud.

His father, Zurab Mamukelashvili, and shares a deep love for basketball.

His mother, Marianna Oakley, is active on social media and frequently celebrates her children’s accomplishments.

Sandro has described both of his parents as the strongest people he knows and emphasized their unconditional support throughout his career.

He has proudly mentioned how his family’s encouragement fueled his aspirations to reach the NBA.

Sandro’s Basketball Journey Began In Georgia But Took Him Across Continents

At 14, he moved to Biella, Italy, to attend high school and compete in youth leagues.

2016, he relocated to the United States to attend Montverde Academy in Florida.

There, he played alongside future NBA star RJ Barrett and was mentored by Georgian NBA veteran .

After high school, over offers from prestigious programs like USC and Vanderbilt.

During his college career from 2017 to 2026, he became a standout player.

As a senior, he averaged 17.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, earning Big East Player of the Year honors.

The Indiana Pacers selected Sandro with the 54th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, but he was immediately traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.

He spent time with their G-League affiliate before signing with the San Antonio Spurs in 2026.

His versatility as a center/power forward has made him a valuable asset on both court ends.

Beyond the NBA, Sandro has represented Georgia internationally.

He played for the national team during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers and competed in European championships with Georgia’s U20 team.

Sandro’s Bond With His Family Remains Central To His Life

After becoming an NBA player, he gifted his father and brother a car as a token of appreciation for their support.

His parents often attend his games or cheer him on from home. Sandro has expressed how much he values their presence and encouragement.

Recently, during a (120-105), Sandro mentioned that his parents were present at the game, highlighting their involvement in his journey.
