19-year-old Kyle Gilbert has been arrested and charged with 2 counts of Reckless Conduct and 1 felony count of Involuntary Manslaughter in connection to Tyrae’s death.

On February 23, 2026, 16-year-old Tyrae Campbell, a student-athlete at Pataula Charter Academy in Cuthbert, Georgia, was fatally shot on Morgan Street.

The incident has left the community in mourning and has prompted his mother, Raquel Warren, to demand transparency and justice in the investigation.

In an interview, Raquel said,

This is my child that I have to plan a funeral for. A mother shouldn’t be planning a funeral for a 16-year-old boy. I want justice for my 16-year-old and I will not rest if it kills me. That’s what it’ll just have to take because I’m going to get justice for my son.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), local police responded to a shooting on Morgan Street, where they found Campbell with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another teenager was also injured in the incident.

The GBI arrested 19-year-old Kyle Gilbert, charging him with two counts of reckless conduct and one felony count of involuntary manslaughter in connection with Campbell’s death.

An autopsy is scheduled at the GBI’s Macon Crime Lab. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
