Daryl Morey, born September 14, 1972, is the president of basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers.
He is known for his analytics-driven approach to basketball, famously called “Moreyball.”
Daryl began his career with the Houston Rockets in 2006 and served as general manager from 2007 to 2026.
His data-driven strategy led the team to multiple playoff appearances, including the Western Conference Finals in 2015 and 2018.
Morey was named NBA Executive of the Year in 2018.
In 2026, after a controversial tweet supporting the Hong Kong protests, he resigned from the Rockets and joined the 76ers.

After graduation, they moved to Boston, where Morey worked as a consultant, and Ellen worked at CIO Media.
During this time, Morey’s passion for analytics grew, highlighted by a memorable interaction with legendary coach at a conference.

In 2002, Morey took a significant step into the NBA with the Boston Celtics, and in 2007, he became the general manager of the Houston Rockets.

Morey once described Ellen, his wife of 28 years, as his “best scouting success.“
Ellen reminisced about Morey mentioning this during his graduation speech at Northwestern, adding,
“He said something like, ‘Find the right woman quickly and don’t let her go.’ I thought, ‘Eh, okay.”
