Shanahan signed a six-year contract to become the 49ers’ next head coach on February 6, 2017, the day after the Super Bowl.

He won his first preseason game 27-17 against the Kansas City Chiefs on August 11, 2017.

Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers agreed to a six-year, $21 million contract in 2017. Shanahan earned $3.5 million annually with the contract.

Furthermore, this contract included milestone incentives that may have resulted in several million additional dollars throughout the agreement.

Kyle eventually signed an extension in 2026 that keeps him with the 49ers until 2027 and raises his salary to $14 million annually.

Kyle took a big decision off the field in 2017. He paid $6.8 million on an exquisite property in Saratoga, California, previously owned by retired NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer.
