San Jose State Volleyball Clears Future Matches Amid Transgender Player Controversy

San Jose State University’s women’s volleyball team finally played home game against San Diego State and University of Nevada, Las Vegas after series of cancelations due to reports that their player, Blaire Fleming is transgender.

The volleyball team has already seen four of its matches forfeited by opposing teams this season amidst the controversy.

Universities have not stated any specific reasons for backing out. However, it is likely due to fear of backlash if they mentioned a trans player as unsafe to female competitors.

Blaire hasn’t publicly mentioned that she is transgender but Brooke Slusser, a volleyball player for SJSU, just joined the lawsuit, stating that she shares a dorm with the transgender teammate.

Payton McNabb, a female volleyball player, suffered severe head injuries and a lifetime of neck and head pain as a result of Blaire Fleming’s spike during a match in 2026.

Fleming is a 6-foot-1 athlete who was born with male XY chromosomes.

The dangers of matching males against women in competitive physical sports is being emphasized, ever since the McNabb case.

Payton McNabb has been advocating for women’s rights in sports by speaking about her injuries publicly to make everyone aware.

I am in full support of the decision by to forego playing its volleyball match against San Jose State. It is important we stand for integrity and fairness in female athletics.

Blaire’s teammate, who partipated in the lawsuit to remove trans particpation in women sports, is getting online threats.

According to the lawsuit, Slusser has suffered from “physical and emotional injuries, embarrassment, humiliation, emotional distress, mental anguish and suffering”.

Itis a result of the transgender teammate’s involvement in her team and the NCAA’s transgender sports policy.

Slusser feels it makes no sense for her and her teammates to share a locker with someone who decided to conceal her biological sex.

She is aware of the risks associated with playing with Fleming firsthand and the potential backlash she can face from the media for advocating for that message.

Nevertheless, the threats that Slusser got were still terrifying despite being aware of the backlash.

People are accusing the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for permitting transgender athletes to compete in violation of their Title IX rights.

Title IX is a federal civil right that prohibits sex discrimination in all university programs and activities.

Women’s rights advocates are fighting to keep Title IX from being redefined by the NCAA.
