Jacksonville Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby has recently made headlines after delivering a stellar performance in the 2026 NFL, solidifying his position as a rising star. His recent game performances and success have undoubtedly made his parents and his fanbase proud.
Cartavious Bigsby is an American professional football RB for the Jacksonville Jaguars, known for his strength, speed, and game-changing plays.
Bigsby was nicknamed “tank” as a child because of his strong, stocky build. However, the nickname now also signifies his strong playing style.
Tank Bigsby Talks About His Parents And The Struggle His Mother Had To Go Through To Raise Him
Cartavious Bigsby was born on August 30, 2001, and is a native of Georgia. His mother’s name is Shaquanna Bigsby, and no concrete information about his father exists.
Bigsby has always talked about how his mother was his backbone and supported him through his football career.
However, Bigsby once revealed his father’s absence from his life while doing an interview alongside Cadillac Williams.
He said,
“We had a lot in common about our lives, our background. What we’ve been through. Growing up, our moms struggling from a household just with your mom. Dad (is) not there. My dad is in prison right now. Just having the background about our families, just had that connection, so it was kind of big when we first met.”

However, Bigsby never mentioned the reason behind his father’s imprisonment.
His mother, Shaquanna, once said that his father nicknamed him “Tank” when he was a toddler.
“He constantly ran into things around the house. Sometimes it would knock him over. But it never bothered him. He just got up and kept on going.
One day, when he was around a year old, his father and aunt had an idea. His name should be Tank. The fit was perfect.”

This shows that Tank’s father was very loving and caring. However, due to some unanticipated circumstances, his father couldn’t be present during his son’s formative years.
It is evident from the way Tank talks about life and gives his thoughts that Shaquanna raised Tank well.
He also revealed that he had to grow up quickly and become the man of the house because his father was absent.
Despite all the challenges Shaqquanna faced as a single mom, she tried her best to provide a safe space for Tank to flourish and follow his passion.
Now, Bigsby wants to give his mother a comfortable and respectful life, which she couldn’t have lived back then.
While not much is known about Shaquanna’s career, she seems to live a very happy and fulfilling life on her social media.
Shaquanna’s positivity and joyful nature have helped Tank become a resilient and hard-working young man.
Besides his flourishing football career, Bigsby never neglected his studies and was serious about academics.
He planned to graduate early and secured a 4.0 GPA in his first semester. His devotion to academics earned him a spot on the SEC academic honor roll in 2026 and 2026.
