Basketball player Tre Johnson was born to Richard Johnson Jr., a former basketball player, and Priscilla Johnson. His father, a college basketball player, now serves as a coach.

Tre Johnson, a standout guard for the Texas Longhorns, is becoming a name to watch in college basketball in nearly no time.

Born on March 7, 2006, Tre has earned recognition as one of the top recruits in the 2026 class, all thanks to his outstanding talent and skill.

Johnson’s basketball journey began at Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas, where he led his team to their first state championship since 1968.

Later, he transferred to Link Academy in Branson, Missouri, to further hone his skills.

Likewise, one of his major milestones is his selection for the United States Under-19 basketball team for the 2026 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup.

Tre Johnson Almost Followed In His Father, Richard Jr.’s Footsteps by Committing to Baylor; However, He Chose Texas Longhorns!

The 20-year-old has already solidified his name in college basketball; however, behind every successful athlete is a supportive family, and Tre Johnson is no exception.

His parents raised him and his two brothers, Royce Johnson and Jamari Riley, in a sound family environment in Texas.

Texas Longhorns’ basketball guard Tre Johnson’s father, , played college basketball at Baylor for two years from 1995 to 1997 before transferring to Midwestern State.

He reportedly tallied over 1,000 career points during his time at Midwestern State. Likewise, Richard was inducted into the school’s Athletics Hall of Honor.

Richard has been an assistant coach at Richardson International School District for over five years, starting in August 2019. He also coaches at Dallas Independent School District.

His father earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice/Safety Studies from Midwestern State University in 2000.

Given his father’s background, it wasn’t surprising for Johnson to get aligned and interested in the sport. In fact, Richard guided Johnson since his early days.

During an All Access Network , Richard said he coached him a lot growing up while he was a coach at Lake Highlands High School.

Johnson was close to following in his father’s footsteps as Baylor approached him. He officially visited Baylor in October 2026, and the Bears hoped to add him to their 2026 recruiting class.

However, Johnson committed to playing for the Texas Longhorns on November 15, 2026. Not to forget, several other top programs, including BaylorKansas, and Kentucky, courted him.

The eldest of three, Johnson, adorns a No. 20 jersey in honor of his father because he wore the number during his basketball career.

Meanwhile, details surrounding his mother, Priscilla Johnson, remain private from the media. The basketball guard also stays mum about her.

She stays away from the media scrutiny, supporting Johnson through all his career accomplishments.
