A former player and current head coach, Major Applewhite, has been married to Julie Applewhite, a licensed realtor and philanthropist, for 21 years.
Major Lee Applewhite, born July 26, 1978, is the head football coach for the University of South Alabama, a role he assumed in 2026.
He previously served as head coach at the University of Houston (2017–2018) and held coaching roles at Texas, Syracuse, Rice, and Alabama.
Applewhite played quarterback for the Texas Longhorns from 1998 to 2001, earning All-Big 12 honors.
He set several school records, including the longest pass play (97 yards) and most passing yards in a game (473).
In 1999, Applewhite won the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Year award.
He began coaching in 2003, gaining recognition as an offensive strategist with key roles as coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Likewise, Applewhite led South Alabama to a 7–6 record in his first season as head coach.

She became a licensed realtor in Alabama in 2007 and re-entered the field in 2026 after working in recruiting and client relations for a major law firm.

In addition to her successful career, she is committed to giving back to society. Julie supports the Box of Balloons organization, which provides birthday celebrations for children in need.
Similarly, she is also involved with the Dumas Wesley Community Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving vulnerable populations.
Julie and Major Applewhite have two children, Lila and Nash, and together, they embrace a family-focused lifestyle.
