Kyle Filipowski’s parents, Rebecca and David Filipowski, have expressed concerns about Caitlin Hutchison’s influence on their son, accusing her of “grooming” Kyle and causing a rift in the family.
Born on November 7, 2003, Kyle Jarred “Flip” Filipowski plays as the center for the Utah Jazz of the NBA.
A consensus five-star recruit and one of the top players in the 2026 class, Filipowski played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils.
Kyle Filipowski’s Parents Attended The Same High School!
Rising star Kyle Filipowski‘s parents are David and Rebecca Filipowski. Kyle comes from an athletic family since his parents have an exceptional athletic background.
His mother, Rebecca, formerly known as ‘Becky Hagerdon,’ had a prominent basketball career.
Standing 6 feet 4 inches tall, she started her basketball journey, playing as the center at Warwick High School.
Throughout her remarkable career, Rebecca attained significant milestones. With 2,164 career points, she led her team to the New York State Championship title in 1982.
Becky Hagerdon was unstoppable and continued her basketball journey at Long Beach State in California.
However, fate had other plans as she sustained a severe knee injury, eventually putting a stop to her budding career.
However, her strength and perseverance never let her give up easily, so Rebecca transitioned into coaching.

Through coaching, she still keeps her passion for the sport alive, imparting knowledge and skills to emerging players, including her sons, Kyle and his twin brother, Matt.
Rebecca has a wealth of academic experience and expertise, possessing a B.S. in Physical Education/Sports Medicine and a Master’s degree in Health Education.
Furthermore, she is an experienced athletic trainer, teacher, and coach managing high school programs and players for multiple teams.
Her coaching career started with Washingtonville School District, where she taught health, physical education, and life skills to grade 6 to 12 students.
She also coached girls in volleyball and basketball. Moreover, Rebecca also created an adaptive Physical Education program to provide activity and exercise for disabled students.

Similarly, David Filipowski is a former collegiate basketball player who played at Slippery Rock University from 1980 to 1981.
David and Rebecca studied at the same high school and raised four similarly passionate basketball-loving children together.
This strong athletic lineage has heavily influenced Kyle, contributing to his passion and talent in basketball.
Kyle’s Estranged Relationship With His Family Is Due To His Relationship With His Fiancee!
Despite the Filipowski family’s shared love for sports, some speculations suggest Kyle has an estranged relationship with his family.
On an ESPN podcast after the first round, when discussing why Filipowski missed the first round, draft expert Jonathon Givony made a vague reference to his fiancee, Caitlin, being older than him.
Following this discovery, individuals investigated further into the subject, discovering that Filipowski’s fiancée is six years his senior and attended his high school prom accompanying him.
There are some Instagram posts indicating Filipowski and his fiancee may be relatives.
Similarly, additional information suggests that Caitlin was his babysitter.
The story surfaced after the draft expert discussed potential reasons why Filipowski may have been moved to the second round.
However, it’s uncertain how much of this was known by NBA clubs or whether it was the primary reason for him not getting selected in the first round.
Kyle’s mother and older brother, Daniel, alleged his fiancee for brainwashing him.
“I’m Kyle’s oldest brother..you all don’t have a clue of the extent of the story that has to do with his girlfriend. There’s a story that has been pushed under the table for nearly two years now.”
“If (ESPN draft expert Jonathan) Givony responds to my DMs, he would be able to get the full story that no one knows about outside of who’s involved, Duke coaching staff and his agent”

Furthermore, Rebecca tweeted:
you are opening a two year issue…and she is 28
with an endgame 3 years ago to have a diamond ring on her hand when Kyle left Duke. HE WAS STILL IN HS

The family has accused Caitlin of grooming the high schooler Kyle into a romantic relationship and forcing him to cut ties with his family.
Additionally, Daniel revealed that Kyle had sent his family an email as an official goodbye letter.
