Yussuf Poulsen was born in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Born to Shihe Yurary, a Tanzanian container ship worker, and a Danish mother, Lene Poulsen, on June 15. 1994.
At the tender age of 6, Yussuf lost his father to cancer. Similarly, Yussuf was curious about his Tanzanian heritage and hence visited the country on numerous occasions, even at present.
Starting as a defensive player for BK Skjold, he became a striker once his teammate Kenneth Zohore joined FC Copenhagen.
The Dane was around 12-13 years and 14 years of age. Lyngby BK recruited him for their youth team.
Although not an immediate starter in the first team, Poulsen rose through the ranks to confirm his starting spot.

Club Career
From his native Denmark, Poulsen went on the sign for the German third division side, RB Leipzig, at the age of 19.
After his first season under head coach Ralf Ragnick, Leipzig earned a promotion to the second league.
The Danish striker contributed ten goals in 27 appearances that season. And after intense hard work from every team member, RB Leipzig earned a promotion to the first Bundesliga in 2016.
Finally, eligible for competing alongside other teams in Europe, Yussuf is as motivated as ever.
During the 2014/15 season, Yussuf netted 12 times in 32 appearances and seven goals in 32 appearances subsequently in the following season.
Similarly, in the 2016/17 season, the Dane found the net only five times in 30 appearances.
However, the Danish striker verges on breaking many records in the Bundesliga. After a 5-o defeat of Hertha BSC, Poulsen became the first-ever player from Denmark to find the net three times in the same game.
Along the way, he ensured RB Leipzig‘s 50th victory in the first league and became an all-time top scorer of Danish origin for a single season. No one is as loyal as the Dane if you seek a loyal player.
For instance, Yussuf stuck with the German-side club for almost seven years, during which the club received three promotions, and now, in the present season of 2019/20 is 7 points clear of seven years of Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich.

International Career
Being a player of both Tanzanian and Danish origin, Yussuf was eligible to play for either.
The Dane was expecting a call from the Tanzanian Football Federation, but Poulsen decided to play for Denmark upon being snubbed.
Although he has a soft spot for his father’s country, the Leipzig striker enjoys his time for Denmark.
Yussuf International CareerAdditionally, Poulsen represented Denmark U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19, U-20, and U-21 side. The Dane was part of the Denmark League XI for a brief period.
Eventually, in 2014, Yussuf was made to the 23-man list for the Danish national team. On October 11 of 2014, he made his first debut for Denmark against Albania.
Loyal to the German club, RB Leipzig, Yussuf rejected the call-up for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Nonetheless, the Leipzig-based striker proudly wore his national jersey in Russia’s 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Against Peru, Poulsen received MOTM for his lone goal. In like manner, the Danish striker netted seven times in 43 appearances for Denmark.

Despite being promoted to the first Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, Yussuf has yet to receive significant titles with his club and country.
